Name: Sherry Forbes
Title: Financial Economist
When did you join Giant Oak: 2015
What are you working on: Right now, I am working on DARPA projects.
Tell me something about the work you do: At DARPA, the projects I work on are aimed at preventing technological surprise. Through these projects, Giant Oak collaborates with some of the best and the brightest in industry and academia throughout the country. These kinds of projects – undertaken within this kind of intellectual environment – are fast-paced, stimulating, and extremely rewarding. The work is important and relevant and really critical in a number of ways. It’s great to be a part of that.
Why did you come to Giant Oak: At Giant Oak, we wear the white hats – but a large part of our jobs requires thinking like the bad guys. (Something at which I seem to be oddly good.) That’s not work, that’s fun. Also, see above.
What do you do when you aren't at work: See above.
Prior work experience: Before coming to Giant Oak, I taught Empirical Finance at the University of Virginia and was a Visiting Assistant Professor of Economics at Sweet Briar College.
Education: I earned my Ph.D. in Economics from the University of Virginia, my M.A. in Political Science from the University of Chicago, my M.Phil. in Economics from the University of Oxford, and my B.A. in Economics and International Relations from Sweet Briar College.
